Liverpool FC today confirmed, via their official website, that they have finally reached an agreement with Dutch club Ajax for the transfer of star Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez.
One of the main recurring stories during this transfer window, the on/off transfer of Suarez to the Anfield club seemed to be almost dead and buried after a series of trips to Holland by Damien Comolli, director of football strategy for Liverpool, ended in disappointment as the two clubs failed to negotiate a price that both teams were happy with.
However, just after 5:00pm local time, Liverpool announced that they had reached an agreement to pay up to €26.5 million for the talented attacker.
Suarez has come to the attention of top clubs all over the world for his goalscoring exploits at club and country, as he has scored 107 goals in 153 games for Ajax, including 35 goals in just 34 league games during the 2009-10 season.
For his country Uruguay, he scored three times in the recent 2010 World Cup and has 16 goals in 39 caps overall.
The initial fee has not been released but around £15-18 million is the expected amount, with the rest rising depending on appearances, trophies or other possible achievements.
Suarez has scored seven times in 13 league games this season for Ajax.
